Ruia Taitea Consultancy is an emerging Māori-led consultancy grounded in the whakapapa and cultural heritage of Te Arawa.
We support organisations, educators, communities and creative teams to engage meaningfully with te reo Māori, tikanga, Māori educational practice and culturally informed storytelling.
Our name speaks to preserving what is essential: language, identity, relationships and knowledge that endures across generations.
In our founder's whānau oral tradition, the whakataukī is associated with the Te Arawa ancestor Te Roro o te Rangi. This is acknowledged as whānau tradition, rather than a historically verified attribution.
Practical, collaborative services tailored to your people, your kaupapa and the outcomes you want to achieve.
Tailored language workshops and tutoring, programme and resource development, curriculum support, pronunciation coaching and communication capability.
Guidance for organisations, tikanga-informed planning, cultural learning and respectful engagement, involving appropriate iwi or hapū expertise where needed.
Māori values-based leadership workshops, mentoring, team facilitation, confident communication, whaikōrero learning and cultural capability development.
Script and dialogue review, te reo Māori pronunciation coaching, character and story context, actor preparation and production consultation.

Matia Mitai — Te Arawa
Matia is a Māori language practitioner, educator, translator, interpreter and screen professional whose work connects language, cultural knowledge and contemporary practice.
His experience includes five years as a Māori-area educator at Auckland Museum, five years translating and interpreting for the Office of the Clerk of the New Zealand Parliament, and three years teaching te reo Māori.
With approximately five years in film and television, his screen credits include Struggle Without End, Kairākau Series 2, End of the Valley, The Convert and Ahikāroa, alongside commercial work for road safety, Vodafone and Kiwi Plates.
Our visual identity draws on the enduring strength of Te Arawa, represented by an unnamed symbolic warrior. It is not intended as a portrait of a named ancestor.
We believe the strongest outcomes come from understanding what matters, respecting the knowledge held by communities and working together with care.
From the first kōrero to the final outcome, our approach is considered, collaborative and grounded in respect.
Listen to your kaupapa, people, priorities and intended outcomes.
Agree on scope, responsibilities, timeframes and any cultural review needs.
Work collaboratively, with clear communication and practical delivery.
Reflect on results and identify how capability can continue to grow.
From classrooms to boardrooms, marae-based learning to film sets, we tailor each engagement to its context.
